About Us

Founded in 2019 by Adam and Tanya Homewood, Making Moo’la is a family-run business backed by four generations of beef cattle breeding. Our passion is Shorthorns.

Our introduction to stud breeding began when we struggled to source the type of cattle we wanted locally. Rather than compromise, we made the bold decision to back ourselves. We selectively purchased our first registered stud stock, and thus began the dream of developing the Shorthorn breed in our local Manning Valley.

Moving cattle to the coast has always presented its challenges; but we've embraced this opportunity to raise cattle that are well adapted to coastal conditions, meaning they thrive in any environment.

We pride ourselves on breeding cattle that are built on sound structure, good temperament, ease of calving and performance, all while staying true to the tradition of the Shorthorn breed. Every calf represents not only years of selective breeding but also a legacy built on hard work and a deep respect for the breed we love. Establishing both stud and commercial breeding lines, breeding cattle is not just our business, but our way of life.

Our focus is on strong genetics, quiet temperaments, and practical performance. We are committed to ensuring our cattle carry the strength of tradition into the future. We breed Shorthorn cattle that combine structural soundness, fertility, and easy-doing traits, with proven performance in the paddock. Our goal is to produce cattle that work for commercial herds – efficient, adaptable, and reliable in all conditions.

As commercial operators, we haven’t forgotten the importance of the end user. Our stud stock are generally handled daily on motorised equipment but are also exposed to being worked by dogs and stock horses. We take this commitment even further with our bulls. By the time they are sale-ready, they have been extensively worked through the yards and crush to ensure their temperament meets our high standards before reaching their new owners.

Being coastal-bred gives our Shorthorns a unique edge. From birth, our cattle are exposed to challenging pastures, humidity, and variable climates, which strengthens their hardiness and efficiency. Slightly slower maturing than inland producers, our stock are ideal for producers seeking cattle that are well-adjusted and perform across diverse conditions.

When used in crossbreeding programs, our Shorthorns contribute resilience and easy-doing traits, that meet the needs of modern beef producers combining proven bloodlines with performance-based selection. Shorthorns are in invaluable option for producers looking to boost performance in their herds.

Globally, Shorthorns are recognised for their fertility, maternal strength, and balanced carcass quality – traits we carefully select and enhance in our breeding program. We combine these natural advantages with a focus on structure, calving ease, and temperament to produce cattle that are not only profitable but also practical and easy to manage in commercial herds.

At Making Moo’la, we are passionate about delivering cattle that excel in the paddock, support profitability, and preserve the versatility and resilience of the Shorthorn breed.
